It was 3 am and Lady had been lying awake staring at the wall for nearly two hours now; the sound of rain falling against her window soothing on any other night except this one. Nearly 18 years ago on this very night her life had been viciously ripped apart, almost in the very manner it had been at Temen- Ni- Gru.
Her lover long lost in battle and her child taken from her shortly after it's birth, no doubt all part of a sinister plot to seek revenge on the Sons of Sparda, it was a wonder she had managed to continue moving forward this long. Lady was a fighter, a fact she had proven time and time again but there was no one and nothing that could dull the pain of this constant reminder of what she had lost.
A hand rested gently against her stomach, recalling the joy she felt the day she realized she was expecting. The hetero chromatic woman had never been one to fantasize about the perfect wedding or 'dream home' the way most other women did, Motherhood and family had never been a high priority on her list, often taking a back seat to her work. It was a luxury she just never had the time for; considering the world she lived in and the people she often surrounded herself with. The day she gave birth to her beautiful blue eyed, white haired baby boy however, was the day everything changed. He looked so much like his father, much to her surprise as she had expected a set of eyes to match her own, but his features were entirely that of his fathers, down to the same look of cold indifference; even as an infant. It had truly been the best day of her entire life and nothing else would ever earn that title.
Burying her face in her pillow Lady stifled the tears that threatened to fall, the heart ache that accompanied these memories too much for her to bare.

It was a miserable night to be walking about town, that much was for sure, but for the bloody and dirty figure in the rags walking down the street alone, it was the most beautiful night he'd ever experienced. He wasn't sure how many years it had been since he'd seen or felt the rain, and the cool spray was more refreshing than he could have imagined. Vergil counted it as another small miracle he was experiencing that it just happened to be raining when he'd emerged; it meant the streets were mostly empty and no one was around to witness the haggard figure making his way down the sidewalk looking like death itself.
The rain wasn't enough to even begin to wash the blood and grime off of the half devil, the droplets barely able to even crack the top layer of mud and gore caked to his skin. But Vergil didn't care, it still felt glorious, and for the first time in many, many, years he allowed a small smile to grace his lips. His once brilliant white hair was dingy and stained beyond repair. It would have to be cut and grown out to have any hope of being restored, and the filthy strands hanged down limply over his eyes and cheeks, plastered to his face by the rain water as he strolled along.
His shoes were gone, his clothing nearly in shreds, but Vergil didn't care. He was free of that hell after years spent searching for an escape. Obviously it hadn't been everything he'd thought it would have been, but he had survived and he was back. The first thing on his agenda was to find lodging and replace his ruined clothing before it crumbled right off of his back, the outfit so badly damaged that even the rain water was almost enough to tear the threaded fibers. With that thought in mind the demon made his way through the dark, empty streets to find a hotel. He had a little bit of cash that he'd swiped from a thug who'd been stupid enough to think he was an easy target to rob about an hour ago. Needless to say that man was no longer walking the streets.

Nero sat in the corner of the burger joint, feeling slightly exposed under the bright florescence of the lights as he shoved another french-fry between his lips and chewed. The place was so bright, and colorful, and clean it was a weird contrast to the dingy and disgusting state of the Devil May Cry agency. Visiting Dante for a week or two had seemed like a good idea when he was leaving Fortune, but after five days of not-always-fresh pizza Nero needed a change.
Even if that change was a burger or three and some fries at a fast-food joint down the street.
He knew he was earning some odd looks from other patrons and employees, but he ignored them as he unwrapped the wax-paper from his second burger. He was a growing guy, and he needed to eat dammit! No one in Fortuna ever gave him half a glance when he went out to eat there. These people were so uptight in this big, crowded city of Dante's.
It didn't occur to him that it was his weapons the people were wary of, and not the large amount of food that he was currently wolfing down with gusto.
He took a swig of his second vanilla milkshake before starting into the burger.

No matter how hard she fought to stay in control and keep those tears at bay they still fell, only to be immediately wiped away the moment they made contact with her rosy cheeks. All this moping around and crying was not like her and frankly, she had grown tired of this all too human behavior along with this constant solitude. No good ever came from being stuck at home all alone with only ones thoughts as company.
"That's enough of that. Stop it." Lady snapped forcing herself to snap out of it in hopes of regaining her usual spunk. "If Vergil saw you like this... " She knew exactly what he would say and no matter how irritating his comment that thought alone was enough to bring a small smile to her face. The truth was, she was going to be alright, deep down she knew she would be. Mary had gotten past her mother's passing and she would fight through this obstacle as well. "I clearly need to get out." With a sniff and a rub of her eyes she sat up, wiped her face of any stray tears one last time and headed to the bathroom to straighten herself out, then to the closet to put some real clothes on.
The fact that it had been pouring outside a few minutes ago didn't matter, a little water never harmed anyone and it certainly didn't bother her in the least, it was a pleasant distraction really and that was exactly what she needed right now. If she was lucky she would run into a demon-- or two-- to take down and keep her preoccupied but that was hoping for a little too much. Packing some serious heat, as the woman always was, Lady grabbed her black coat, keys, tucked her pistol and Å korpion into their respective holsters and headed out the door in search of trouble. She could already tell. It was going to be a loooong night.

The hotel, if you could even call it that, that Vergil found himself in a short while later wasn't exactly the most ideal place to stay... but it was better than the streets. He'd even managed to procure a fresh pair of black pants, a dark gray button up shirt, and some shoes. It was a bit awkward offering the man he'd caught at the ice machine money for a spare set of clothes, but it was better than wearing those rags he'd had on before. Vergil had attempted to trim his hair, but he could only really do so much to the front without it turning into a mullet, so he settled for being able to at least see.
Now that he was dressed and had a room for the night, Vergil felt the need to attend to his next biggest concern: food. It had probably been over a week since he'd actually eaten, and the only reason he was still up and walking was because of his demonic half. But that wasn't enough to quell the hunger he was now feeling, so, with a very meager amount still left in his pocket, the half devil set out to find something quick, cheap, and more importantly, still open.
Vergil 'borrowed' and umbrella from the small lobby of the hotel and made his way out into the dismal night in search of nourishment. After a bit of wandering a garish neon sign caught his attention so he wandered over to it, trying to ignore the way his stomach protested. It appeared to be some sort of 'fast food' place, so the half devil went inside, figuring that beggars couldn't be choosers in this instance.
The inside was clean enough, he supposed, so Vergil walked up to the counter and glared at the young woman behind the register. "Give me whatever I can get for this," he demanded as he placed two twenties on the counter rather forcibly. The girl stared at him as if he had grown a second head and after some nervous suggestions or her part and some annoyed responses from Vergil, she rang him up for enough burgers and fries to fill two trays and a large soda.

Nero was so absorbed in his own meal that he almost didn't notice the tall man with white hair and more fast food that any one person had business consuming in a single sitting. He might not have noticed at all had the Devil Bringer not given an abrupt twinge, so sudden and sharp that he dropped the fries he was holding. They fell back into the container and he looked at the demonic arm, frowning at it as though expecting it to do something strange.
It was glowing a little more brightly than it normally did, but that in itself wasn't exactly worrisome. It was more the fact that his arm had felt like it had reacted to something close by. He felt Yamato, too, strangely enough. Normally when the sword resided in his arm it was in an energy form and it became part of his own aura, but it was almost...restless?
Nero looked up and around, trying to see if something nearby had caused it, and his blue eyes found Vergil.

When she left the house in such a hurry not five minutes ago Lady had every intention of getting herself into so much trouble that not even Sparda himself would be able to save her. That was her way, instead of drowning her sorrows away with booze or disgusting food the way Dante did, she found comfort in life threatening situations, the rush that came with barely escaping with ones limbs still intact was intoxicating and she would much rather go down fighting than cry away whatever was left of her mental health all the way to the hospital.
Now that she was out however, she realized that wasn't at all what she wanted to do, or so her body was telling her. It had been who knew how long since the last time she stopped to eat something filling and by this point she was on the verge of starvation.
Luckily there was a place that sold delicious burgers and her favorite kind of onion rings not too far away from where she lived. So that was exactly where she would go. Arriving at what appeared to be one of the few places to get food still open Lady entered the 'restaurant'. Once inside she brushed herself off a bit and shook her head, attempting to remove the rain that had drizzled down on to her on her walk over. Without so much as a curious glance around she made her way to the small line and ordered some food, finding a nice quiet spot to eat her food in that wasn't too crowded; her bouncing back into shape moments later and framing her face as it always did once it was mostly dry.

Vergil was settled nicely into the far corner, away from prying eyes and annoying chatter. There was someone else already back there when he'd sat down a few tables away, but he paid them no attention. Right now if they weren't being consumed then they held no importance to him. The devil was beyond starving and right now the piles of grease covered starch on his trays were tempting him too much to resist.
The demon would have sworn he'd died and somehow made it into heaven when he took the first bite. Of course, he was eating with a plastic knife and fork that he'd managed to threaten out of the manager before leaving the register area, but that didn't mean he couldn't enjoy a hamburger and french fries. The flavor was heavenly on his deprived tastes buds, and before he knew it he was already on his third burger and second box of fries, napkin tucked into his shirt just in case.
The devil was vaguely aware when a woman entered the building and ordered food, but he only caught a passing glance at her. "Human," he murmured under his breath, deeming her not to be a threat now that his senses were starting to return as he filled up. He vaguely made a note that there was a young man seated a few tables away that he'd passed, but he paid him no attention... that is, until he felt eyes boring into him.
Vergil glanced up, eyeing the other male in the vicinity curiously. His hair almost looked white... but that was impossible, he certainly wasn't Dante and white was much too uncommon a color for a young man. It was probably just a light blond and looked white in the annoying lighting. He scowled slightly before focusing back on his meal, though he kept the figure at the other table focused in his peripheral vision... just in case.

Nero knew it was none of his business. He knew that. He would be better off finishing his peaceful meal and heading back to Devil May Cry, but he couldn't let it go. The guy looked too familiar. White hair, that nose...he really looked like Dante. He could be his twin.
Nero's eyes widened slightly as he realized what might be going on. Standing up suddenly, he walked over to where the other man was eating his ridiculous quantity of food. He flexed the fingers of his Devil Bringer almost nervously before folding his arms.
"What kind of devil eats a hamburger with a knife and fork?" he demanded boldly.

As she attempted to enjoy her food in peace, she couldn't help but feel eyes burning into her flesh, not too casually either, from nearby. She hated the way people stared. Yes, her eyes were a very peculiar sight for most humans, there was no doubt about that, she knew already, they were strange but her "condition" was not nearly as bizarre as they made it out to be; especially considering the amount of hellish creatures roaming these streets at night. In fact, it was a lot more common than people realized and certainly not worth the amount of attention it always received.
One would think, that by now, after years of strangers giving her the same reaction wherever she went, that she would have gotten used to it, but who could ever get used to being treated like a circus freak on display? "This is why my best friend is a demon and I spend all of my time away on business.....with sunglasses on..." Lady grumbled under her breath with a heavy sigh. "Hey. Take a picture, asshole.." She snapped after the person sitting across from her refused to go about their business like she had hoped. The woman had half a mind to break his glasses, but was not in the mood to hide from the authorities when they came sniffing around the restaurant in search of a dark haired woman with easily recognizable facial features. Other humans being easily spooked by anything they felt threatened by and all.
Although there weren't too many people eating inside to begin with, the good amount that was present was enough to cause a small amount of noise, some more so than others. Out of the corner of her eye she noticed what she thought was a white haired teen harassing a male about her age, but she couldn't see them well enough to be sure. Kids these days, it was probably hair dye and not worth the effort. If things got out of hand she would step in but for now, it was none of her business.

Vergil was content to eat his meal in peaceful silence and not bother anyone. He had no devious plans, no schemes for world domination, he just wanted dinner. Needless to say, he was less than thrilled when he noticed the brat at the other table approaching him, but the half devil played it off as if he was oblivious. The easiest way to get rid of a nuisance was to ignore it, right?
Vergil actually thought he might be able to just ignore the kid and he would go away after saying whatever it was he had to say, probably wanted to ask for a ride home or to borrow five bucks or something. He was a bit thrown when the little twat had the gall to demand to know about his eating habits. Just who did that little cretin think he was, anyways?
Icy blue eyes shifted from their focal point on the table in front of him to meet the face of the brat who dared to interrupt his meal, and then narrowed in irritation. "What kind of a fool interrupts a devil with a knife?" he asked pointedly. Not that the plastic knife would normally be much of a thread, but for Vergil it was more than enough. "Remove yourself from my vicinity," he ordered before going back to eating. Vergil was actually very curious who the boy was, but he was also getting highly annoyed.

"I dunno, maybe a fool with a sword and a gun?" Nero challenged, unable to resist answering the man's jibe, "You really look like a friend of mine. I heard he had a twin. I don't suppose you'd know who I'm talking about?"
Nero was positive the man did know exactly who he was talking about. Behind the weird haircut and lack of stubble, the guy before him was a dead-ringer for Dante. And if that wasn't evidence enough, the longer he stood close to him, the more his Devil Bringer misbehaved. It was pulsing now, a low glow alternating with a bright one, and his fingertips were tingling with energy.

Jesus christ, what did she have to do to get some peace and quiet around here?! Not two bites into her burger and already, some drunken asshole was trying to start shit at all hours of the night. Who the hell had the energy to get this riled up, in a fast food restaurant of all places, because someone was staring and they didn't like the way they ate? Oh, right. Lady was feisty and ill tempered but even she was too lazy to start anything with a complete stranger without serious provocation.
Another heavy sigh left her lips, this time out of irritation, and her left eye twitched a few times on it's own to indicate just how quickly she was losing her patience. "Just..breathe..It's not worth it." [/i] Lady convinced herself, forcing herself to take a deep breath and ignore the attention those two in the corner were attracting. If she had to stand up from her seat and abandon her food just to intervene there would be hell to pay, no one wanted that, least of all her.
Those onion rings were delicious and she hadn't even gotten a chance to get half way through her burger let alone eat one ring. This place had gone from semi peaceful to annoying in little time, it seemed all the crazies were filing in and the noise that came with them was not appreciated. It almost wasn't worth all this effort and Lady seriously contemplated taking her food and heading back home before she reenacted a scene from an old western, where she would be playing the part of a villain in a shoot out or worse, the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

It was only then that Vergil really took notice of the boy's weapons. They were alright he supposed, but they were no Yamato. This boy seemed to go for flashy over power, something he found distasteful in a certain other annoying idiot...
Though it seemed there was some common ground between them after all when the strange mentioned a 'twin' that he happened to know who looked like Vergil. Vergil leveled his gaze on the boy as he pushed away his trays of food and slowly and pointedly rose to his feet. "I suggest that you state your business with me before I lose my patience."

Standing, Vergil was a good few inches taller than the teen, but Nero didn't seem intimidated in the slightest. He was Dante's brother, after all, how bad could he really be?
Nero uncrossed his arms and put his hands on his hips, half-smirking and half-grinning at the older man. He tilted his head to the side and said casually, "Honestly I was just curious. Dante doesn't talk about you much, but I was under the impression that you were, you know, dead....You're not dead, are you? You don't look dead."
