The silence between them as they walked didn't really bother Vergil. He was never one for mindless chatter, unlike his brother, and with Lady it was a comfortable silence that had settled over the pair. It also gave him opportunity to reflect on things as the half devil tried to sort out his feelings. He was so used to always knowing what he wanted and what he needed, even after everything that had happened in his life, but Lady was a wrench thrown in his plans that he didn't quite know how to handle. 'You're obviously fond of her...' he told himself as they walked. It was true, the demon couldn't deny it, the woman was growing on him more and more. He'd never felt this way, it was a little unsettling.
When Lady spoke up and told him she thought he was crazy for making the decision to stay in this place, the demon snorted lightly and shook his head. "Well, they were the least of my concerns when I made the decision..." he replied quietly, eyes focused straight ahead. Vergil felt himself frowning again as he thought back to that time when he'd made the decision to stay. It was foolish, he had to admit. Undertaking such a thing after already having been weakened in the fight with his brother was probably one of the stupidest things he'd ever done. If he couldn't even beat Dante, he didn't know why he ever thought he could beat Mundus like that.
Vergil knew there was no use dwelling on it right now, there would be plenty of opportunity to talk about it if he wanted to when they got out. Right now he just needed to focus on where they were going, which seemed more and more like the way they needed to be heading. Lady's remark about Dante missing him made Vergil sigh loudly, and he finally glanced over at her. "I'll just have to take your word for it," the devil replied, shaking his head. It was hard to imagine Dante missing him at all after the way they'd parted ways so long ago, but then again, he supposed there was always the chance that Dante had grown up a little. Vergil knew exactly how it felt to have no family and nothing else left and the loneliness that came with it, surely his twin at least understood that much.
As they ventured further into the cave, the scent that was distinctly outdoors wafted into Vergil's nostrils and the demon smiled. The half breed tugged his arm free of Lady's grip and grasped her hand instead, pulling gently as he quickened his pace. "Come on," he urged her, nearly jogging as he shuffled with a new found excitement through the cave. At first a dim light began to appear at the far end of the cave, but as they hurried towards it the light grew and grew and Vergil was certain it was the surface. The demon practically ran for the exit with Lady, heading straight into the blinding light and stumbling outside.
For a moment it was glorious, the brightness and the wonderful smells, even the breeze on his skin, but nearly immediately Vergil released Lady's hand and instantly covered his face. "It's too bright..." he groaned quietly, shielding his face from the sunlight he hadn't seen in years. Obviously it was going to take him a bit to get used to the human realm again. It was much hotter and darker where he'd been stuck for years, he'd forgotten just how extreme the surface could be.
